The Ballets Russes Reunion Collection

The Ballets Russes Reunion Collection

This is a collection of items from the Ballets Russes Reunion that was held at the University of Oklahoma School of Dance in 2010. The Collection consists of correspondence with former Ballets Russes dancers and other invited guests.


A Bulgarian dancer, Tatiana Bechenova was a member of de Basil's Original Ballet Russe from 1939-1947. Her collection contains important historical records concerning the company's years in Central and South America. Materials consists primarily of programs, travel documents, scrapbooks, and photographs.


A dancer with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo from 1954-1958. Beddow’s collection consists of souvenir programs and photographs.


The collection of Lois Bewley, who danced with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo from 1955-1957 is made up of photographs from her time in the company.

Oklahoman Pat Bloom was a fan of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. Her collection contains programs and other materials from the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and other ballet companies.


This collection documents the transition between the first and second of the Ballets Russes companies. Nathalie Branitzka Hoyer and her husband Jan Hoyer were dancers with Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes and after Diaghilev’s death joined Colonel de Basil’s Original Ballet Russe. Branitzka later came to the United States and for many years ran a dance studio in New York City. Her collection is composed of scrapbooks with photographs of tours, musical scores, books, and souvenir programs.

Introduced to all of the performing and visual arts while living in Paris, Tony Clark went on to become a dancer, choreographer, director and producer of ballets, operas, plays, films, and theater. His collection includes prints and photographs of Ballets Russes dancers, books, Pavlova dolls, and a porcelain of Anna Pavlova as the Dying Swan.

This collection which includes a memoir by George Zoritch, autographed items from Ballet Russe dancers, and photographs was donated by Elliot, a retired attorney and longtime balletomane and Ballet Russe aficionado.


Douglas J Engmann Collection

This extensive collection consists of manuscripts, photographs, magazines, and books primarily documenting Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russe, the company’s dancers, composers, choreographers, and designers. Douglas Engmann is an arts patron.

A signed photograph of the 4 Moons ballerinas, all of whom danced with one of the Ballet Russe companies and two rare dance books were donated by Everett, an Oklahoma City physician, philanthropist and arts patron.
